In 1972 Mr Bhagwanjibhai and Mrs Manglaben Lakhani and their family were expelled from Uganda by the ruthless dictator Idi Amin. Many Ugandan Asians settled in Leicester.
Bhagwanjibhai recognised his wife’s culinary skills and spotted an opportunity to cater for the growing influx of East African Asians and thus spawned the idea for Bobby’s…a pure vegetarian Indian eating experience based on the values of authentic pure vegetarian traditional Gujarati cuisine in a family friendly environment at affordable prices.
The name derived from one of Mr B’s favourite Bollywood film hits of the era “Bobby”. A film of romance between a rich boy and a poor girl, starring Bollywood heartthrobs Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.
Bobby’s pure vegetarian Indian restaurant was founded by the Lakhani’s on St. Valentines day 1976. Bobby’s compromises of everything from farsans and traditional Indian sweets to authentic a la carte meals cooked freshly using only the finest ingredients at value for money prices.
In more recent years the Bobby’s menu has developed to cater for new trends to include a wider range of indo-fusion dishes.
Though trends change…Bobby’s core values never have and never will.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bobby’s….
kind regards Bobbys Team.
